Designed for a site on an exposed hill side in Central Otago. This house was conceived as a contemporary Passive House. Two main designs were explored, both with one end as a double story with the master bedroom on top. Conceptually the design was to appear like a piece of drift wood or remnant on the exposed hill side - retaining as much of the rugged native flora and fauna as possible. The single finger form allowed for a compact design, orientated towards the dramatic view to the east. The North face incorporated a hidden courtyard with movable screens to allow for shelter from the wind.
